Our Story

Since Sunday 14th November 2004…

…we’ve been shaking slings and stirring Old Fashioneds. A suburban bar that made proper cocktails, free-poured, ‘50’d’, ‘86’d’ and shouted ‘200’s’ with a 6-disc CD player banging out ‘The Toots & The Maytals’ – all this was a rarity outside of cities back then.

The first day we opened, with just one team member (Big Matt), we surpassed all predictions of how busy we’d be. Since then we’ve grown, evolved, stumbled & matured along the way. Adding a kitchen ‘box’ in 2008 (changing from ‘The OBT’ – coined by our lovely regulars – to ‘The OBK’) then putting in a much larger (expensive!) kitchen with a visible pass in 2015, extending and refining our food service.

Our Journey Through The Years

We’ve become a family, and we’ve seen it all over the years.

First dates, engagements, births, deaths, marriages & divorce, honour & scandal, and lifetime friendships have been made.

We’ve suffered 1 armed robbery, pulled through 2 global recessions, barred ‘pimps’ & ‘gangstas’, witnessed 8 prime ministers, made mistakes, yet we’ve got lots of things right, and whatever is going on in the world, we’ve stuck together & we keep on going. Striving to excel in hospitality, and to be your favourite funky local, with the best drinks, food and service around.

We Love Dogs!

We’re all dog lovers here, and over the years we’ve come to realise that dogs tend to be better behaved than most humans ~ so we’ve cut them some slack and they’re more than welcome inside. We have dog treats & water bowls.

Please keep them on a lead and off the furniture though, and make sure they’ve had a good walk before coming in, no barking and no humping. Oh and after 9.30pm on the weekend its way too busy inside so please stay in the garden for their own well being.
